Worship Ministry:
Thank you brother/sister for your heart to devote your talents and passions to serve the body in this important role. This letter is meant to clarify your role as a participant and to help you to understand our vision as a ministry.
Mission Statement
To usher God’s people into a sacred experience with Him.
Theme Scripture
Acts 2:43- Everyone was filled with awe…
Scriptural vision
I see our role as servant leaders in the Body of Christ comparable to that of the Levites in the Old Testament. (Numbers 8, 18) It was a visible yet humble role. They were to minister before God, performing particular duties on behalf of the people before God. Please refer to the worship ministry quiet times for further exposition of this topic. The analogy for us as I see it is that once we are in this sacred role, we are to serve the interests of God and the people above our own, in musical preferences for example. Of course we will receive joy and satisfaction, but we are servants. Let’s approach our role with humility and sobriety because “from those whom much is given, much is expected” (Luke 12:48).
Schedule
The group meets to rehearse and prepare the following times and places. Your presence is needed and expected. Each member is to present or accounted for at each meeting.
Sundays 8:30 to 9:30am – to rehearse/polish songs for that particular worship service, Occasionally when there is time we will prepare for the following week. This is not intended to be a time for in depth teaching. Please look at the songs prior to Sunday morning.
Wednesdays before the combined men and women midweek services 6 to 7:15- This is usually the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month. The goal of this rehearsal is to focus on learning songs involving the instruments.
Monthly on 2nd Saturday, 8:30 to 11am- the goal of this rehearsal is to focus on songs not involving instruments and the vocal portion of i+9+nstrumented songs (musicians optional)
Sectional rehearsals- these will be planned as needed and by request before the all women’s or men’s midweeks.
Planning meetings- once every two months. This is a time to generate ideas and vision for the group. The input of each member is desired.
(It is our goal to have enough prepared singers in each part to establish a rotation in the near future)
Dress Code
As servant leaders we are to dress in a way that communicates reverence and respect. No jeans, t-shirts, shorts or sneakers please, and no casual sandals for men. In the winter men wear a jacket, tie and button down shirt. During warmer weather, men may wear a collared shirt or polo top and slacks. It is also especially important to dress with sufficient modesty that it won’t cause undue struggles with lust. Sisters please avoid wearing tops that are tight fitting or low cut. Please wear any skirts at or below the knee. Again our goal is to communicate reverence and respect.
Personal spirituality
“ Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.” 1Tim4:16
The Levites were called on to consecrate themselves before special times of service. In a similar fashion, because we are leading God’s people we must do our best to be prepared spiritually, especially when we are in front of the assembly. Practically this means having daily quiet times, dealing with sin in our lives, and being engaged with the body with people in our lives. We are all growing and will fall short at times. If we are “stuck” spiritually, it is a good thing to take time from the leadership aspects of the ministry until you are making progress again. If for some reason you are asked not to sing, we ask that you trust that you are loved by God and us and assume and attitude of humility. I believe we have all been in that position at some point in our life and walk with God and may be again. Remember that what matters above all is that the Lord’s name is honored. Please seek input from Rondey, Lisa or Sajjan regarding any such concerns.
It is strongly encouraged that members have a worship focused quiet time on Sunday mornings.
